Do public schools have the right to force a student out?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under public schools | 8 Comments »

My brother’s school is apparently "forcing" him out. Can public schools do that? They want him to transfer to another school. Do public schools have the right to do that?

If he has violated the rules and has a repeat pattern of being disruptive or abusive to staff and other students – then YES.

If not – find a good attorney.

How can we improve the public school system?

What ideas do you have to improve our public schools, from pre-K through high school? I’d like to hear from parents, teachers, and students alike. What things do you like about the public schools and what should we change?

10 months of school
more funding
higher pay for teacher so more people will become teachers
give raises for best teachers to make it more competitive
require uniforms in all schools to cut back on distractions
have a mandatory study period for the whole school

What would be a good funraiser for a secondary school?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under secondary school | 2 Comments »

I am principal of a secondary school and i need to raise some money for our school and to kids in Poverty. It would be nice if you could help me help!

well you could do the traditional type stuff, raffles, cheese rolls selling, sell confectionery etc to people and have a prize for the people who sell the most etc.
but it depends what specifically they are going to do with the money that you can use to help you. like at my school they raised money so children in Gambia could have bikes so they could ride to school, and they like drew a bike really big with chalk on the court and collected coins which they put on the drawing outline and if you donated you got a ride on one of the bikes they had there. which sounds really simple and doesn’t cost anything but it worked really well.
or another good thing is a people auction where you buy students or teachers to do jobs for you for a length of time which is fun to watch he he.
or another thing my school did was sell bricks. it sounds silly but they put some new brick pavings in so they let people "buy one" that is they got to pick a message to put on it which got engraved on and that made a good profit.

well there a millions of ideas i could go on and on but i hope you fundraise lots =)

What kind of cake would you make for a primary school graduation cake?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under primary school | 4 Comments »

My mum is thinking of making a graduation cake for all the year sixes (because i am graduating from primary school). What cakes can she make plzz help.!!!!
If you want a bit of thought, i was thinking of a cake with little sugar children on top holding hands. Some others plzzz, doc ur answer is the best so far.

Michael,

This is going to sound like a cop out, but it is really hard to beat the taste of a good quality mix. And let’s face it, 6th Graders are probably not connoisseurs of truly fine cakes.

My suggestion is for your Mom to purchase a cake mix from Duncan Hines, Pillsbury, or Betty Crocker and make it in a 9×13-inch pan (that will provide about 24 2×2-inch pieces of cake), ice it with a good buttercream icing and decorate it with balloons and stars made from different colors of icing.

Here is a great buttercream icing recipe that is the industry standard in bakeries across the country.

Wilton Buttercream Icing

½ cup solid vegetable shortening (Crisco)
½ cup butter or margarine (1 stick)
1 Tablespoon Wilton Clear Vanilla Extract
4 cups Confectioners Sugar (1 pound)
2 Tablespoons Milk
Wilton Icing Color

Cream Butter and Shortening with an electric mixer. Add vanilla extract. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of the bowl often. When all the sugar has been mixed in, the icing will appear dry. Add milk and beat at medium speed until it is light and fluffy. Makes 3 cups.

At this point you will have a nice white icing. For colors, use Wilton’s Icing Color paste or powder. Use a toothpick to add the paste to the icing and mix well until the color is even. If you need more color, use a new toothpick for each new addition of color.

Keep the icing covered with a damp cloth until ready to use. For best results, keep the icing bowl in the refrigerator, with a piece of plastic wrap pushed down to be in contact with the icing, when not in use. Refrigerated in an airtight container, this icing can be stored for 2 weeks. Rewhip before use.

For Chocolate Icing: Add three 1-ounce blocks of semi-sweet chocolate, melted, or 3/4 -cup of cocoa powder, and an additional two tablespoons of milk. Mix at medium speed until smooth and well mixed.

For Mocha Chocolate Icing: Substitute 2 tablespoons of strong brewed coffee for the additional milk in the Chocolate Icing directions.
.
For more non-chocolate variations, substitute different extracts for the vanilla. It is especially good with Lemon Extract.

In a private boarding school, when and how are pupils allowed to leave school grounds?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under boarding school | 3 Comments »

Do their guardians have to sign some slip? Do the students have to sign themselves out? Do the students have a curfew time to be back in their dorm rooms? When a student comes back to school grounds, how do school employees know they have returned?
I’d just like some information on boarding schools and how they work.
I’m just looking for in a general sense. I don’t need specifics, but just what would happen in ‘most’ boarding schools.

like some schools depending on location allow their students to leave within a certain rage (ex: go to stores down the road, go to a restaurant or cafe) and the student just need to write it in the house log saying when and where they are going and what time they left. and then sign back in when they return. all boarding schools have some form of curfews, whether that all students need to be back at this time for study hall, this time in the dorm, or at this time in their rooms… like on weekends some places make 10 or 11 pm their curfew. typically you only need guardians signatures for taxi/ public transportation permission, overnight/ trip permission to go with friends and their parents… but to go anywhere where a guardians signature was needed before you can go there are usually rules that you have to clear it with a house adviser or dean before. teachers/ advisers know when a student returns on campus because either they have shown up for curfew or have written it in the log… if you don’t ask for permission or log out you can get in serious trouble.

plus the teachers and advisers keep an eye out for their students

How important is high school on a college transfer application?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under high school | 2 Comments »

In high school I did a solid but kind of pedestrian job. Since I’ve been in college I’ve been doing really well; I’ve got a 3.8 GPA, a hard schedule, and three really good extracurriculars. I recently applied to my reach school. I’m not asking whether I’ll get in or not, but how important is college performance relative to high school performance to undergrad admissions?

high school really does not matter any more

How old to be assistant for middle school team?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under middle school | 3 Comments »

I didn’t make my high school team this year, and if I don’t next year I would like to coach. How old do I have to be to coach as a assistant for a middle school team ?
yeah the coach would know me.
when i was in middle school, our assistant was like 24 so i had no idea how old you have to be.

I don’t think age really matters if you want to coach middle school because you are volunteering and not getting paid to coach. If you were getting paid, maybe 18 or 21. I think it’s great that you want to coach. It shows that you really love basketball

What schools would you recommend to ultimately become a psychiatrist?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under schools | 1 Comment »

I’m in high school, and I am considering careers. I would appreciate if those of you who have entered this field would share what schools you attended and your recommendations.

To become a psychiatrist, you have to enter medical school. So, that’s 4yrs of college, 4yrs of med school, and 4 yrs of residency.

It’s not that important which school you attend. Just earn high GPA, do well in MCAT, and do some leadership position in a club or a job, or even volunteer with anything healthcare related.

Can a private school withhold records for payment of tuition?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under private school | 3 Comments »

My children attended a private school, we havent finished paying the tuition yet, and even though the children have transferred to a public school, the private school is refusing to release the records until the tuition is paid in full. Is this legal? We live in Oregon.

yes it’s legal. It will happen when the kids go to college and don’t pay their bills as well. Usually the next step is being turned over to collection, so be sure your payments on time.
