How do public schools in the states receive funding? By this I more mean how does the state, and federal government decide how the money is dispersed in between the schools? What would cause one school to get more money than another?

It depends upon many conditions, infrastructure, strength of students, location, facilities the school is providing to students.
If the school is providing better facilities than there are better chances for good funding.

If one child is significantly ahead of his grade level and does better in a home-school environment and is being home-schooled, do you think it would be strange to send the younger child to public school (which is also a great system)?
What’s unschooling?

Works just fine. A lot of homeschooling families do it! I gave my kids the choice to do it, specifically my youngest who wasn’t miserable at school, but both chose to homeschool/unschool, so it’s never been something we’ve done. If one of them changes their mind, or my youngest wants to try regular school when she’s of that age, then I guess that’s what we’ll do.

I even know of an unschooling family with 4 kids, and one who just up and chose to go to public school himself (why anyone would choose that cesspool is beyond me, but whatever, he knows what’s best for himself), and it’s apparently working out wonderfully.

*ETA: Unschooling – in simplest terms, there’s many different kinds and many different views on it, each family’s is different – is not using a set curriculum, or only using it if and when the child chooses. Unschooling is based on the philosophy that children learn best by experiencing and doing things that interest them, and that forcing a certain curriculum or forcing them into a certain way of learning stunts a child’s ability to learn at all.

There is unschooling as a purely educational philosophy, and there is also "radical unschooling" (not as scary as it sounds, LOL) also known as "whole life unschooling" in which unschooling encompasses a parenting philosophy, and then there’s "eclectic" unschoolers (like my family) who don’t fit into either homeschooling OR 100% radical unschooling, they’re usually a bit of both.

I am currently in year 10 and want to be a primary school teacher. Any website that I look on talks about QTS’s or something, which I don’t really understand. Could anybody simplify what I need to do for higher education to be a primary school teacher?

When you start university you can either:

Do a 4 year teaching degree and at the end you will have QTS.

OR

Do any degree and then complete a one year teaching course at the end of it. After you’ve done the teaching course you will have QTS.

(QTS just means Qualified Teacher Status- means you’re qualified to teach!)

Now, I want to go into elementary school education but there is no major for it at my school, and plus, I want to finish my biology degree.

If your school doesn’t have a teaching certification program, they might be able to tell you where to get information locally, or be able to refer you to a teaching program at another institution.

I think that my job is cheating me. I am a full time high school student and according to NYS law if you are a full time high school student I should put exempt and these people are saying I’m not eligible for it. So now they’re taking out income tax out of my pay check as well as federal and state tax. I should not be paying both taxes and income tax as a high school student. How can I find out what the law is so I can bring it to their faces and tell them a thing or two. Because I am not going to stand for this.
Judy…shut up I’m angry. I know that there are some taxes I can’t get out of such as medicare and state as well as social security, but income and federal tax should not be in there. It says on the W2 that if you are a full time student put exempt. My sister did that and she is exempt from federal and income. By the way I earm minimum wage and work two days out of the week. What the hell? And the income and federal tax is what’s really doing the most damage to my pay check.

The W-4 is a FEDERAL form. NY law DOES NOT APPLY. For STATE taxes, you may be exempt. I don’t know NY law. Under FEDERAL law, you can only claim exempt if you had ZERO tax liability last year and expect to have ZERO tax liability this year. That is NOT the same as getting a refund. If the IRS keeps ANY of your withholding, you had a tax liability. The ONLY way being in high school matters is that you are probably considered a dependent of you parents. That actually REDUCES the income level at which you have a tax liability.

What certification test does someone take to become a middle school math teacher in Missouri?

I know there is a C-BASE test that you have to take to be a high school math teacher but I didn’t’ know if you had to take the same test or a different one like elementary school does.
