Im writing a persuasive essay for school about (being against) learning a foreign language. Im not sure if it is mandatory for learning a foreign language in public schools though. If anyone could help me out with this?
In my schools, you are required to have at least 2(?) years of a foreign language, wasn’t sure if it is like that in other states.
Thank you.
Tim G – I agree, some people have no interest in learning another language and they don’t help the teacher by not wanting to learn anything.
It isnt mandatory, however it is recomended. Colleges are getting more picky about foriegn languages. In Montana, at least, 2 years of a foriegn language is required to even qualify for acceptance into the university.
We pay massive amounts of money into the public school system. However, in doing some reading last year, it came to my attention that there is a huge gap between what various groups think education is for. What do you think education should achieve?
I’m posting this in Politics because I think this is a political question as well as a philosophical one.
Education should help put all americans on an equal footing. It should teach young people the lessons of the past and teach the basics of science, math and communication.
I’m talking public schools here.
If you get good grades (in hard subjects) in secondary school (especially in years 11 and 12) will the school think twice about expelling you?
Yes, 100%.
A guy at my school who was lined up for straight A’s and had received a university offer from Oxford (I’m from England… Oxford is arguably the best uni here) was known to have plagiarized, and openly copied a teacher’s work, as well as being known for stealing books, but he wasn’t punished at all because him getting such good grades benefited the school, and they didn’t want to lose him. Makes me sick.
Could somebody tell me what Qualifications I need to become a Primary school treacher or teaching assistant. I have GCSE grade C in English, English Literature, Maths, Science, ICT and Textiles.
If anyone could give me any websites that would be very useful, thank you.
The two jobs are are on completely different levels. If you want to be a teaching assistant then there are specific NVQs but you can start the job without them. If you want to be a teacher then all info and advice starts at
www.tda.gov.uk/recruit.aspx
It would help you a lot if you were to arrange some time volunteering in a local primary school where they will be able to explain the difference between the two jobs.
I want to go to Boarding School in England, but I have to keep the price under $20 000 a year. I already found a few schools I like, one being Barnard Castle School, but I would like some more to consider.
So could you please tell me of any good affordable schools, and also tell me if Barnard Castle School is any good! Please and Thank you!
Information is below.
Ok so I am currently in high school right now and in my junior year. I want to try to find someone from my elementary school and i cant see to accomplish this. I tried finding this person on myspace, facebook and other sites like this but nothing:( I dont even know if this person is still in the same state. How should i do?
If they have a unique name or if you know his parents first name you could go in the white pages and look under his dads name and see.
I am a senor in high school in Florida currently, and my parents are planning on moving us to Chicago next month. I rather not start over at a new school with only a few months left, so I am looking over alternatives to graduating with a high school diploma, such as community college. Can anyone tell me what some possible options are? Thanks in advanced.
There are several accredited high schools available online where you will be able to finish your degree.
Try the following website:

what hours (7:30-3pm?) are middle school/high school teachers usually contracted to work, and what time do they usually end up leaving the school to go home for the day?
is it about the same for elementary school grades? or do middle school and high school teachers usually get to go home earlier?
Frequently, contractually, you will be required to be at school 20-30 minutes before and after the kids arrive and leave. However, if you are looking for a profession that only lasts for those hours you are looking at the wrong profession. Whether you do your work at school or at home, you will have a lot of work to do. Many people believe that teaching is a "nothing" job. That you work only from 8:00 — 3:00, then work only 9 months of the year. So untrue!!!!!!!! I don’t know of any teachers that are any good that work those hours/months. Each night they take home students’ work to grade. No, if you are a good teacher, you aren’t going to find much time during the day to grade papers. You are also going to need time to plan for lessons, prepare for them, make worksheets, tests, etc. Sometimes multiples of the same worksheet to fit the different levels of your students. Teaching is not a 40 hour per week job – it is much more.
I am an upcoming sophomore, but I would like to know how to apply to dental schools beforehand. I heard that in order to apply to dental schools, we have to take the DAT (Dental Admissions Test). I would like to know more about applying to dental schools. This can also help other people who are planning to go to dental schools in the near future. Thank you.
yes you’re right you have to take the DATs. as you probably already know it consists of math, biology, chemistry, physics, and the PAT (the perceptual ability test). depending on what dental school, you’ll want to shoot at least 17 or above. a good score would be above 20.
get good grades in college. more and more people are applying to dental school, so it’s getting more competitive. you’ll want at least 3.3 in college. 3.5-3.7 will get you into most schools.
outside stuff: it’s best to have volunteer work (in a dental setting), research, leadership positions etc etc, but w/o good grades and good DATs, it’s hard to even get an interview if you have all sorts of extras.
other than that talk to alot of practicing dentists. see if you can shadow one for a month and see if it’s something you’d want to do. it’s a long road, so make sure it’s what you want.
a real good website for dentists, physicians, DOs, optometrists, etc is the student doctors network:
www.studentdoctors.net
go to the forums for pre-dent and you’ll be able to talk to other people like you. i still go to this site once in awhile. plus it’s absolutely FREE!!! unlike the answer above.
good luck
Does your child go to a private school? How do you feel about private vs public? Thanks for your info!
My sons attended a parochial (church-run private) school. Twenty years ago it cost $1500 a year per child. I’ve heard that’s increased to as much as $6500 or more a year.
The kids got more personal attention, the classes were about 20-25 students each, there were lots of parent volunteers to help the teachers and to tutor, and since it was a small school, the parents and kids all knew each other, and even hobnobbed with the teachers. I would do it over again.
Visit whatever schools interest you and take notes, make comparisons on major amenities and conditions, and visit classrooms to observe discipline and interactions.
