What classes in high school do you need to be a veterinarian or author?

Posted by admin on June 4th, 2010 and filed under high school | 4 Comments »

I am in high school and I want to be an author. I need to know what would be the most helpful classes to take while in high school. I am signed up for animal science and Latin because I heard that it is very helpful. Any other classes I could take? What classes would I need to really really really pay attention to?? Please and thank you! I know that you need to be good at English. I don;t know much about what you need to become an author.

Veterinarian-Be very fond of science. I wanted to be a vet, and once I started college I realized that I needed to take 4 chemistry’s, 4 biologies, and 3 physics, plus some other basic classes just to get into the vet school. After realizing that only about 5 out of 100 applicants get into veterinary school a year, I changed my major because I don’t like science much. If you have a passion for writing, stick with it.

What are the statistics of a High School student actually returning to school?

Posted by admin on June 1st, 2010 and filed under high school | 1 Comment »

A lot of people have been telling me that if i wait a year before going to college after high school the chances of me actually going back to school are slim. I was wondering what the actual % is for high school students that do that and actually go back to school after taking the year off?

I haven’t seen any statistics on that. If you’re sure you want to go back, the best way to do it is to go through and apply to colleges, get accepted somewhere, and then defer admission for a year. That way it’s all set up for you, so it’s not a huge pain while you’re working or doing whatever in your year off. The longer you wait, the more work it is.

How can my high school do an exchange with a high school in Spain?

Posted by admin on May 27th, 2010 and filed under high school | 1 Comment »

My high school recently did an exchange with students from France. Students at my school hosted a class of students for free of charge and it was successful. I would like to do another exchange in which students from Spain come and students would host the students from Spain for free. Is there a program that help with this? How can this be done?

When I was in high school, my school also had a sort of mini-exchange with a school in Mexico City. One year, a group of students from there came to see us for a week and the next year a group of students from my school (including myself) went there for a week. (We just had to pay airfare and food when not with our host families.) In both cases, it was just a teacher at each school that took care of everything (except for getting the airline tickets – the teacher contacted just a regular travel agent for that). That was 20yrs ago. I would think that better communications would make it easier to do not than back then.
I’m not sure if there’s any kind of list or something of schools in Spain who would want to do this or not. Perhaps your Spanish teacher has some kind of contacts (s)he could use to get the ball rolling.
Good luck!

EDIT:
Since the time the students are abroad is so small and this a private arrangement, I would think that the immigration people would just see this as a large tourist trip – no visas (at least nothing beside the stamp one gets at the airport after touching down) required. (Other countries would be different.)

Does the high school you go to greatly affect your chances of getting into a good university?

I am a junior in inglewood high school and my neighborhood is considered rather "ghetto" so to speak, but i have always had higher than a 3.5 GPA, but i have always wondered if my chances of getting into a university(such as Berkeley or Brown) are greatly different compared to let’s say a student with the same grades from Beverly Hills or Malibu and such.

it’s not a big deal, the most important things are your GPA, test scores, activities, and volunteer work. it really doesn’t matter where you come from, don’t worry!

Can a high school student take classes at Harvard during the school year?

Posted by admin on April 9th, 2010 and filed under high school | 2 Comments »

I live near Boston, and I heard that you can. Is it only by online courses?
And if you have a negative opinion about Harvard, please go elsewhere. Harvard has better classes than my high school offers, like political and government classes.

High school students from over the U.S. are invited to apply to Harvard Summer School and take courses.

Cambridge R&L students are allowed to take Harvard Extension School classes free, if approved by their principal. These are not the same courses that the college undergrads take. Those same students rarely take Harvard College classes, but only with special permission.

What do high school special ed teachers have to do different than normal teachers?

Posted by admin on March 26th, 2010 and filed under high school | 1 Comment »

How are their lessons different? Do they teach one subject? What other differences do they have? Answer all of this from a high school setting not elementary or middle school.

It depends on which teacher you are talking about.
Resource teachers will most likely teach different levels of English or Math. The lessons might just be a little simpler, and they have smaller class sizes. They aren’t really all that different.
Self-contained rooms are with more severe disabilities. They will usually 1 teacher and a bunch of aides in the classroom. They teach different things depending on the student. The lessons are dependent on the level of the child. They might have to use preschool level materials. The same students are there everyday. They may go to one or two other classes. Like PE and/or Art. They might also have to deal with things like feeding tubes and stuff.

What high school subjects do I need to be proficient at in preparation for flight school?

Posted by admin on March 18th, 2010 and filed under high school | 3 Comments »

I’m planning to take up aviation once I graduate high school. So can anyone give me the FULL list of high school subjects (giving emphasis to fields of mathematics) that I need to be proficient at so I’ll be well equipped when I join flight school?

Thanks for the help!

You could actually be taking flight lessons during high school and that will put you a step ahead. If you figure out a school you want to get your degree from, then look at the requirements to get into that program. You’ll find your answer there.

How important was your high school graduation to you?

Posted by admin on March 13th, 2010 and filed under high school | 9 Comments »

My sister’s graduation from medical school is the same day as my graduation from high school. My family doesn’t know which one to go to.

How important was your high school graduation? Would you care if your family didn’t show up to yours?

I think the high school graduation is a LOT more important. Basically the med school graduate is an adult and not so closely connected to the family in a lot of ways. Also more importantly they are a lot more mature and able to handle and accept that sort of disappointment.

My graduation was not too important really, it was a small school and a very small ceremony. but I would have been unbelievably disappointed if my immediate family didn’t come. The rest of the family like cousins, aunts, grandparents etc not coming wouldn’t have made a difference to me.

Books to prepare a high school student for a Pharmacy Career?

Posted by admin on March 12th, 2010 and filed under high school | 4 Comments »

I am currently a senior in high school and I am planning on pursuing a career in Pharmacy. Even though I have time before I start taking classes to prepare me for when I enter Pharmacy school, I would to know are there any books, for high school students, basically teens, that will teach/explain/prepare me for what I have ahead?

I don’t know about specifically Pharmacy, but I studied Biomedical Sciences and more with the book "The Human Body In Health & Disease" by Thibodeau and Patton. It’s really helpful for learning, at a very good level of depth for a teenager, about the different human body systems. It goes through each in a way that helps you understand them very well. You should learn more about this book, and buy it if you think it will help you.
