I pay 12k/year in property taxes; 6k of that goes to public schools. My son goes to a private school because the public school in my area are drug and crime infested. Can the money I pay yearly to public schools, be given to his private school to offset his tuition?
No, but if you qualify you can get a credit for those taxes on your return. Contact the IRS and see if you are eligibale for a an education credit or property tax credit..
Can the portion of taxes I pay yearly for public schools be directed to a private school for my son?

Which school districts in So Cal offer the best public schools for children with autism?
We are being relocated to Southern California and we are trying to decide where to live. Our biggest criteria being the public schools and the programs they offer for children with special needs. Our 7 year old has mild Autism and ADHD and he does not do so well in a traditional classroom with 20 kids. Any suggestions?
There are many hear in CA. I work for Riverside Unified School District. We have a good program for kids with autism. There are many programs that may fit your son. At the school I work for we have several programs. there is SDC, SED, SH, PASD. All programs are 15 or less. It depends where he is placed. I work in PASD which is profound (low functioning) autism spectrum disorder at high school level. So I dough he would be placed in this one. But we work closely with the other classes, and they may be better suited for your son. Also try Riverside County of Education. They have special classes all through out Riverside County.

What are some reasons why public schools should teach comprehensive sex education?
I am writing an English paper on the sex education debate. I believe comprehensive sex education should be taught in public schools (not just abstinence-only), but I can’t think of any more reasons. These are the reasons I have so far:
1. To prevent teen pregnancy and STD’s (by teaching contraceptive methods, etc)
2. To educate students about their bodies and urges
Can you think of any more? I need specific reasons, not just "because abstinence-only doesn’t work."
Thanks!
Also, no matter what, in the world we live in today. Kids will learn about sex at a very young age. So we should educate them now about it. I remember when I was 11 I had a friend who had already slept with 7 guys. I remember my dad wouldn’t let my little sister go on birth control just because she was 14, yet my mom put her on it anyway because wouldn’t you rather be safe then sorry? You can’t just tell your kids that you don’t want them to have sex and expect them to listen to you. They will do it no matter what. So we need to educate them now, and also we need to educate parents that they need to be more aware of what is actually going on these days.
Will the next president of the US put their kids in the DC Public Schools?
Assuming they have school aged children. And if they don’t, why not? Do you blame them or think they should be part of the solution instead of "opting out" of the system? And isn’t it a little bit hypocritical about talking about fixing the schools and trusting the schools to educate the country’s children when they don’t even use the public school system themselves?
Amy Carter is the only presidental child in modern history who has gone to the DC public schools.
No, I doubt very seriously if the next president of the U.S. will enroll their children in DC public schools. The answer as to why not is because DC public schools are at the bottom of the barrel, and I don’t blame anyone who opts not to allow their children to go to DC schools. It’s not hypocritical to not send one’s children to failing schools.
Nevertheless, the president, other leaders, teachers, and parents should try to fix that school system whether their children attend those schools or not. The future of all children in this country will affect the economy, U.S. world status, etc.
I live in a major city in Illinois and have chosen to homeschool my child, and I ignore all criticism about this choice. I know why I am homeschooling my child, and it is the best choice for my family.
If a family has the resources to send their children to an elite private school, hire private tutors, homeschool, etc., that is their choice. This applies to the president also.
Why does the government continually decrease funding from public schools. We cant all afford private education
Our schools desperately need more funding. Private schools get funding they dont need, yet public schools are barely giving our children the education they need. Classroom sizes are big and staff resources are stretched. Australian people are being forced to put their children in private schooling so they leave school and know how to read and write properly! The problem with this is our country will become a 2 class society. Upper and lower. This is already evident with certain careers eg:doctors. Only the rich can provide the money necessary for their children to go to Private schools or Uni. Education should be free!!! Are we destined to be another "America" where the rich get richer and the poor live under bridges with their kids as they couldnt afford their rent and the government wont support them?. Come on John Howard give us a break. You are paying women to have children our schools cant afford to educate! Hope you are planning to open enough factories to employ them!
I’m from the US, so not entirely in touch with your problems, though that’s never stopped me from answering before!
The problem with elected officials is that they all want to be re-elected. If you want to pay for public schools, then you have to do it through taxes, but these days… everyone hates the idea of new or higher taxes.
If you want politicians who’ll make the tough call when it’s needed, you have to have term limits. Being a politician used to be a public service that you did for a time, and then went back to your other career. Today, politicians see the service as a lifelong career with the high probability of even bigger bucks at the end (speaker’s fees, book deals, etc.), and so won’t make the tough calls.
That all said, I don’t entirely get your criticism of the US. Education in the US is free through grade 12 for everyone, even non-citizens, and our college system is among the most affordable pay-to-play systems in the world (some state uni’s can cost as little as $1,500/year without scholarships). If I had a criticism of our system for shrinking the middle class, it wouldn’t be related to education. …irrelevant to your quesion, I know, but felt the need to mention this nonetheless.
What proportion of property taxes in the US go to public schools?
I’m interested in your local area, your state, or if you have it, national information.
Thanks, but no thanks, in advance to all who have an opinion on the wisdom of taxing property, or on the quality of public schools.
Yes, thanks, I know the rate varies by location. As I stated, I’m looking for information about your rate, or the average for your state, or for the whole US. That presupposes that it varies by locality, you see. Or don’t.
It varies from town to town. I hate to say it, but I think your question has too wide of a range to really give you any information. After all, some areas of the country have regional school districts (Massachusetts where I live is one example of that) where a school can serve more than one community in addition to having it’s own school. I live in a town that is part of a 4 town regional middle/high school, and each town has it’s own elementary school. Taking into account each town in America, and each state, and the US in whole, I don’t think you can really get a % of the property taxes that go to school budgets.
Where can I get information regarding public high schools at Queens NY?
I am a new immigrant at USA. I want to start my study in a new school at Queens NY. Where can I get the list and web address of top public high schools there? I have completed 10th grade. Can I start from 11th grade here? What is the admission procedure at public schools for new immigrants?
Queens is one of the five boroughs of NYC. All the. public schools in NYC are supervised by the NYC Department of Education.
Go to the closest high school together with your parent or guardian. Bring with you whatever papers you have from your other school. They will need proof about the subjects that you have taken or passed. You will be sent to the nearest school and will not be able to choose schools unless you qualify for a special school.
You will be placed in the grade where you belong based on the subjects that you have taken and the subjects that you still need. You may be able, if you ask about it, to receive credit for a foreign language if you came from a country that does not have English as a first language.
Go to school as soon as you can. You are missing work that may be difficult to make up. Do not be disappointed if it takes some time to place you in an appropriate school and in the correct classes.
Good luck.
What control does the US Department of Education have over public schools and their sports programs?
Can they control whether or not students who do not go to the public high schools can play sports for them?
No, that (and most other public school decisions) are made at the state and district level.
How do public schools get funding for sports?
How do public schools get funding for sports?
I mean specifically in California US. I would like to know exactly how the funds are distributed, if possible.
Thank you so much yahoo answers community.
Property taxes. That is why you see levies in the ballot every November for school districts.
