I am a senior in high school and I was considering becoming a dentist. So, I was just wondering, what kind of grades should I have in high school (approximately) that would translate into a dental school-accepted GPA?

I am aware that around a 3.5 GPA in college is the average for dental schools, but I am inquiring about what high school GPA would be suited to have a 3.5 GPA in college.

High school grades are only good for getting you into college. Ultimately, they’re irrelevant as long as you can get accepted into a dental program and do well there.

Ok so two years ago i moved away from a town up in the Sierras i think that’s how you spell it lol any way i thought i had ok friends there and yes some were ok friends but others were not i’m going to start freshmen year next year and need to know….is it easy making new friends in high-school it has always sounded so hard but i hope it’s not my town is small rather close-minded but i’m outgoing loud and love to tease my hair and wear crazy neon colors do you think i’ll just be some strange loner in this old town of mine or will i maybe find someone like me? also is it easy to drop old and cruel friends or will my fears be true and i will simply be suckered into some peer pressured relationship with them again and be put down and laughed at like i always used to? plz answer long and meaningful answers i read them all.

it sounds like it will be easy for you to make friends at your new high school. since your outgoing and loud, that is always something that is good to make friends. it’s probably easier for you to talk to people you don’t know so making friends will be easy. for dropping old and cruel friends, that can be hard. just make sure the friends you make at school are people you want to hang out with and not just using you or something like that. just be yourself and get to know the people at this school before you start going out. changing schools is hard, but you will get with everything once you be yourself and not let other people bother you. good luck:)

I am planning on boarding at a private school. I like the idea of sleeping at school because I wont have to worry about being late. I would like to know what to expect in terms of freedom, getting to see my family, waking up for school, and the advantages of being a boarding student.

freedom:
not a lot. there are lots of rules about curfew, over-night permissions, etc. they watch over you like a hawk so they know you are safe and sound. but most schools allow you to do whatever you want in your freetime, including going into the nearby town.

getting to see your family:
it depends on how far you live but most kids see their family every month through holidays, long weekend, parents weekend, college info weekend, etc. internationals go home about 3 times a year

waking up for school: i wake up an hour before class but i know some boys roll out of bed 10 minutes before class and still make it. (but smell bad)

advantages of being a boarding student:
the experience of having a roommate, dormmates, making the closest friends you have ever had. for boys it means x50 the number of video games, etc and for girls it means x100 more dresses, shoes, jewelry you can borrow haha
you also dont have to spend time commuting to and from home so you can sleep instead

expect to become a procrastinator and an awesome BS-er

I hear at bbc podcasts that private school and public schools aren’t submitted to the same curriculum. How does it work public schools in England? Are the teachers and adminstrative staff public clerks or other kind of contract?
US ‘public school’ = UK ’state school’

Another little bit of confusion to the mix are Academies which are state funded but allowed greater freedom than regular state schools.

State school are forced to follow the national curriculum, fee-paying aren’t.

State school teachers are employed under a specific teachers’ contract controlled by the local authority. Fee-paying school teachers are employees of private companies and have whatever contract the school chooses.

State school have poorer results than fee-paying schools for a variety of reasons. Possibly better teachers (better pay and conditions to attract them, the ability to get rid of duds), but also more motivated/intelligent parents and therefore more motivated/intelligent students, better resources, better teacher to pupil ratios, the freedom to get rid of any trouble makers.

The current quazi-socialist government does not like fee-paying schools or home education for that matter because it wants to tightly control the curriculum and prevent the uppity middle classes over educating their children.

DeVry is okay prestige-wise…you might want to also look in to Champlain, Tulane (you would major in Computer Science)…
You should really think about majoring in Computer Science, because more universities offer that major–and many of them are much more prestigious than DeVry or other schools with a game programming major. Here’s a list of those schools: http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/majors/brief/major_11-07_brief.php
