My daughter is going into 4th grade. She is on an IEP and I don’t agree with her suggested placement. My advocate thinks we should look into private schools. Anyone’s child in a private school in MA for learning dissabilites?
I disagree with your advocate. Children with learning disabilities should be educated in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). A school that has only children with disabilities is very restrictive. The child needs to be around her non disabled peers for many reasons, #1 being socialization. If you do not agree with the placement, call another IEP mtg, YOU are the boss. Refuse to sign it if your daughters needs are not being met. Under the law, all children are to receive a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), your daughter’s is not Appropriate, work with the IEP team and continue to advocate for her.

When she is older send her to Eagle Hill School. There is one in CT and one in MA. The one in MA doesn’t accept students until 8th grade–but it is the best learning disability school in the country. Let me also add in, due to the comment above me, that your daughter should go to school with other kids with learning disabilities, believe me I have them and I go to to Eagle Hill.
